I've seen a lot of photos of how people tie their cats down for transport. The rear of the mast is always an issue that I contend with by placing a piece of rubber between the mast and the traveller track. The track is gouged up from the previous owner obviously ignoring this. Also, I've seen one strap across the tramp and the hulls, over the tramp and behind the hulls, and my current setup, ratchet straps on each of the four pylons. I'm looking for ways to reduce my setup time. Currently, I'm down to about 30 minutes to launch with the jib up with the mainsail on the tramp. Any pointers are appreciated.

Here's what came with my boat for holding the mast.

Can't help with the trailer ties as I also use the 4 ratchet straps method.

These are the best way to go for trailer hold downs, I have seen where the ratchet straps can cause stress cracks where they go over the hulls, these don't touch the hulls at all.

Between the mast and the rear crossbar I just put a folded beach towel on the crossbar and bungee the mast to the tramp lacing.

I use that mast cradle; it is great. I drape the shrouds and trap wires in the forward mast support and slide the mast forward until the slack is out of them.

There are several threads here on strapping down the boat itself. One strap at each pylon is all you need; the front ones angle forward and in, the rears angle backward and in. You can use Boatbuckle straps like Hobie sells or regular straps with soft ties around the tramp frame like Matt Bounds shows. I think I have pics on my Hobie page, but there are plenty in threads here.

You don't need to tie the boat down super-tight. Just keep it from moving around too much.

The nice thing about the Boatbuckles is that they stay attached to the trailer. Unhook them and drape them over something else, and you're done.

My routine:
- straps off
- mast up
- rudders on
- life jackets and harnesses (and other stuff) on the tramp
- main and jib started
- back down the ramp (crew riding on trailer tongue holding bridle) and launch
- crew gets the boat to the launch beach while I park the car & trailer
- raise sails and go.
- set downhaul on the water while donning jackets and harnesses

De-rigging is similar but when possible I drop the boom and main directly into a side-zipper sail bag. I don't even need to disconnect the main sheet; I stuff the rolled jib on top along with the rudders and tillers, zip it up and strap the whole bag down with the seven main sheets exiting the bag between the zipper sliders.
