Hello, great day to all.
Purchased a never used probably 1978 Hobie 16
Love it
Have a question on the up haul. Where it meets the sail. There are two "brass" stops, lockers, indicateors? About 8-12 inches from where the main sail fastens to the up haul.
Been looking for a while, don't see what these two brass thingies do!

Kind Regards
James

There should be a fork at the top of your mast. When you raise the sail, you walk the halyard out a few feet and then bring it back to the mast whilst keeping tension on the halyard. The wire goes through the center of the hook and the brass stop secures below it. You must secure the H16 sail this way. The cleat on the mast isn't designed to hold the tension of the sail. The second stop is for reefing the main. I don't know anyone that reefs the main and they actually removed this feature in the late 80's I believe.

Ahh! OK!!!
Looked at it. Doesn't really make sense yet. I will look at more pictures to see if that will help. Is there s YouTube video somewhere?
I will put the mast back up and try.
Thanks
James

You'll get it once you try it. It's like a wedge that the brass crimp fits in to support the weight of the sail so the halyard doesn't have to. Plus if the halyard ever let loose without the cleat in place, the main sail would rocket down the mast on your head!! There are how to videos linked in this Hobie forum if you search-J
