 Post subject: bearing chip substitute

Hey all. Just a quick question. I lost my bearing chip my last trailoring experience and don't have a dealer in the state anymore so was wondering what to use until my mail order comes in with the real thing. Any ideas? I tried some milk jug plastic and it went right through that. Anyway, just wondering.

I've seen people use a penny, but I don't know if I'd leave it in there for long.

You can use almost any bit of plastic (at least for a little while). Plastic bottle cap is probably the most durable. I've used a quarter in a pinch, but it'll wear the mast base/step - and bend the quarter.

+1 to bottle tops or milk bottle cut outs. But whatever you do, don't use coins. I know it was a to do thing in the past but i've seen some nasty wear and tear mast base damage from extended use.
