Hi all,

New to the forums here and just getting BACK into sailing after a 15ish year break.

Anyways i bought an 84 H16 with a trailer for 250 bucks. The boat itself was surprisingly solid with 2 good hulls but missing the tramp. Threw an aftermarket mesh tramp on and went sailing.

Well 2 weeks ago we had some pretty gusty conditions. Long story short, the old seaway ratchet finally died. I got some FSE pro 8mm line and an orbit 55 ratchet triple block on clearance for 60 bucks. The setup is sort of goofy now with the old seaways still on the boom.

I've been looking for a single triple, but as you can see i'm a deal hunter. I found an orbit 30mm block for 40 bucks on sale, but it seems like people always have 40mm+ blocks?? Any reason why the 30mm wouldn't suit my needs? Not looking to be class legal, just can't justify spending 100+ bucks on a block for a boat that i bought for 250 bucks.

Any thoughts on the 30mm would be great. Thanks!

The 30 will eventually blow up

Since you're not worried about stack height, search for a bargain in 55 or 57 mm.

The boat had 2.25" (57mm) blocks originally and sailed just fine.
