Finally getting around to installing mast step link in early 70s. Hobie 16. I bought the step link kit and directions are horrible. What is "Drill head off press pin in mast step casting and remove with punch and hammer". Anybody have photos of a retro fit of mast that had the hook in the casting?

Thanks and i appreciate the help

The pin in the mast step casting has to be removed. It is a "Flair" or "Press" pin and the end is being called the head... either end.

You need to use a drill (1/4" as I recall) and drill the flair material to thin it or remove it without drilling into the casting. Then use a straight (Pin) punch to push the pin out. You can also use an old drill bit or rod material as a punch.
