Hello all. I am new to this forum. I picked up a H16 on Saturday that I found on Facebook Marketplace. I was surprised at the price, but that was what he wanted. I think I got a deal.
The Bad: It will need a lot of cleaning. It looks like it has been sitting for a long time. There is lichen all over the deck. The neoprene on the tramp frame side has disintegrated. The tramp is shot, all the ropes are bad. The rigging is a tangled mess. The mast tip is off and all bent up. That is just the stuff I saw while getting ready for transport.

The Good: The hulls are solid. I did some research and need to confirm that the black rudders are EPO. The sails are in good condition. The trailer pulls really well.

I will post pictures later.

Thanks for looking.

Hello Bryan,
Sounds similar to the one I picked up. Mine has lichen growing on it as well. To clean the boat try this combo, It worked for me last year on another in the same shape.

1st, Simple green and a good scrub brush. Go over EVERYTHING twice.
2nd, Bar keeper's friend for the hulls. You can buy it at your local supermarket.
3rd, Mequiar's flagship premium marine wax 2 coats and the hulls will shine lie new.

I would take the Bar keeper's friend to the rudders too. You might find they are actually white underneath. If they are indeed black and are showing fiberglass fibers you will want to re coat them with epoxy. Search for restoring epo or restoring epo's

Did you get sails with yours?

Yes, the sails did come with it. I have to go over them too. It has been raining and too windy to lay them out to inspect them. I have been doing some research on this sight for restoration and cleaning. I saw your post, but thanks for the list. It will be easier to find now. I was thinking about taking it down to the car wash and get the first layer of crud off and then do your steps.

My hull number is CCMB5835J091.
If I follow the decipher from Hobie, this boat was built in Oct(J) of 1990(0) for the 1991(91) model year.

I did check the hulls today and they seem to be solid and no soft spots.

I will keep updating this thread as I get closer to getting it on the water.

I forgot to add, I also ripped off the neoprene that was on the outside edge of the the tramp frame. It was covered in lichen and just nasty.

Did you have to replace that on yours? I have not research that replacement yet. It doesn't look fun.
