I went to attach this 1/4 inch shackle to the mast tang to rig my trap wires, but this shackle was too tall. It didn't allow me to properly use the upper and middle hole of the mast tang for the bow and bolt of said shackle. I'm not certain what shackle I should buy though, as I would think all 1/4" shackles are similar in length. Any advice or input?

Thanks in advance!

Mentions 5/16 can work on the following link so 1/4in (6mm) should work:

Heres how to use it:

The stock shackle is about 1-1/8” from outside edge of the bow to the centerline of the pin. It looks like this one from Murrays which states equivalent to the stock Hobie part number 10700000.

Your shackle does look a bit big. The Hobie part 10700000 is a 6.4mm (1/4") shackle also, but it looks a bit more compact than that one.

So that particular diagram would be for the old single holed mast tang, not the mast tangs with 3 holes in it. Also, if I were still using the single holed mast tang, I would only use a 5/16th's shackle for safety as theres a very large load on that single hole and shackle.

Ultimately, I was hoping to get away with just using a shackle from my local West Marine but ended up driving to the nearest Hobie dealer to grab the proper, shorter 1/4" shackle for the upper holes on the mast tang. Already had the 5/16ths lower shackle. The 1/4" from the Hobie dealer fit perfect and now I have everything properly rigged! Safety safety safety :D

Thanks everyone.
