I have a 1980 hobie 16 with the old traveler track (the traveler I bought is the old style looks identical to the one I took off) but when I slide the new one in it barely moves in the track any advise??? Do I have to buy a new track? Some body please help 80 bucks for a new traveler thats worse then the one I have!

First, are the bearings brass or stainless. If they're stainless, good. If not you've got the wrong car.

The mold for the new, old style traveler car is a bit different than the stock. The bearings holes were drilled just a touch higher, which makes the car drag on the bottom of the track.

Here's how I fix the problem.

Get a piece of 120 grit sand paper and place the whole sheet on something flat. Sand the bottom of the car making sure to keep it as flat as possible. Sand a little at a time until the car runs freely in the track. Don't take off too much material as it will weaken the car.

Hope that helps.

They are the stainless. I'll give that a try tomorrow and let you know what I find. Thanks
