My wife and my wife were sailing today, inland lake, and we were getting the hull up to about the tip of the windward rudder and twice the rudder came up, one time port, one time starboard, when I was keeping the boat flatter on the water this did not happen. I did not lube my cams or my springs this year, which I should have done, the cams appear to be in good shape. The wind was blowing at about 15 to 20 mph, so at least we had a good sail. I usually do not have any trouble with my rudders coming up. Time for new cams?
The rudder on the windward side of the boat came up while flying a hull in 1 to 2 foot waves today, apparently the cams did not lock all the way or somehow the waves made the rudder come up, the rudders appeared to be locked down but there was a bit of space between the upper and lower rudder casting.
Should I just adjust the cam screw a little bit? Which way would lock the rudders down better?
Thanks,
John G.
