solo righting

Can anybody offer any good advice regarding the usefullness of "bob" mast floats? Most of my good righting experiences involved a crew, or an assist from a powerboat passenger pulling up on the tip of the mast.

Reading some of the posts on this subject, I'm beginning to wonder if I've just been lucky - avoiding a complete turtle...

Well,
i've had my hobie go turtle twice on me but they were wind induce turtles. I singlehand my boat most of the time and have never had trouble righting her from a capsize. Btw, I don't have a bob.

The only near turtle I had was wind induced, something like a failed roll tack, with high wind lifting and flipping the boat backwards. I had someone with me, to keep it from going turtle.

So, just releasing the sheets and turning the boat into the wind has worked for you, solo? Have you ever had to swim out to the end of the mast to turn the boat, solo? I've been able to do everything pretty quickly, releasing sheets and getting on the hulls - but I'm just wondering if there is time to do that, if needed.

Just like you stated it. Release the sheets and turn the boat into the wind. I usually just grab the front of the hull and swin it into the wind. No need to go all the way around to the mast. Probably would be time to do that.......just not necessary. I like to flip my cat anytime there's enough wind. Here in GA it's too hot and I like to cool off. Never had to use a bob and have never gone turtle! Good luck!
