Hello everyone,
I just purchased some new to me 86' hulls to replace my delaminated 83's. Overall, they are in pretty good shape, hard as a rock everywhere. However, the keels need some pretty serious work. It looks like the previous owner went a little too long without getting them done and the starbord hull has worn down to the glass, and the keel is split about 7 inches. I'm pointing to it in the first pic. It also looks like someone did a quick fix job on the keels and just applied Marine-Tex? to keep them from wearing down.

My question is, how do I go about fixing this. The dealer I bought it from said that it isn't a difficult fix really. But, I've never done fiberglass work. From what I remember, he said to stuff the split with wet fiberglass mat, and then lay up the keels over that. Does this sound about right? Is there anywhere I can find a step by step procedure for fixing this.

I'm hoping this was a good purchase. These hulls seem super light and with a little TLC I'm hoping I can get them back to near new condition. Any thoughts?

James, I have lots of info I can send you regarding rebuilding the bottoms of a 16. If you want, I can email you numerous photos which should help a lot. Rather than load up the forum with the photos, I'd prefer to send them direct to your email, so if you'd like some, send your address to ... [email protected] Rick
