Hi Everyone, I just pulled the trigger on 2 Compass through REI. I am trying to figure out if I can upgrade to the 180 drive. If the answer is no I am debating on moving up to the Outback. My only reservation is the 360 drive. If Hobie puts the 360 drive in the 2021 Outback I would be very encouraged to spit out a few profanities. What is a realistic expectation for the 2021 Outback? I don't like regretting purchases but also don't want to miss out on some excellent kayaking time this year. With all this Covid BS I think Hobie should spill the beans on the 2021 model early. At least let us know if the 360 drive is or isn't realistic in the Outback.

I wouldn't expect any changes to the 2021 Outback. Just my opinion. I haven't heard anything one way or the other. However Hobie just completely revamped the Outback last year. And when they released the 360 drive it was made clear this drive won't work in the Outback. There certainly could be a modified 360 drive in the works for the Outback down the road but I don't expect it to be this year and probably not even next year.

If you're are really concerned with this you only have about 6 weeks to wait since Hobie usually announces changes in September (I believe).

Hobie is like Fender in the kayak industry. They are marketing Gods. Hobie has been really good at making customers drop another 3k each year or so. It's possible to have 360 drive on Camo version or make it compatible with 360 drive as an option so people can spend their money to upgrade if they want. if not, they might add something that was add-on as a standard option. (f.g. turbo fins) I doubt they would change the hull design though.
