Has anyone installed the optional Boone Dox standard (HD) landing gear instead of the Outback version? If so, what is the easiest way to get the 5" backing plate installed. This optional install is supposed to help prevent getting cracks in your kayak.

I purchased the standard version because I felt the second option was stronger cleaner install. However, after assessing the photos, I decided to email them. Although I haven't yet installed it, below are the reasons why...

My question to boonedox was basically will it rub because the knuckle can only be moved outward so far. They removed the photos and options from their website. Not sure why.

Here's was their response.

"With the new design of our landing gear you can move the knuckle out farther so that it does not rub. Let me know if you have any further questions."

Information originally off there website:

Hobie Outback - There are two options for the Hobie Outback.  For 2018 & older boats this is the kit you will want to use.  For 2019 Outbacks you can use this kit, or if you want to install it on the flat area next to the storage tray like seen in the picture of the papaya colored boat (shown with upgraded kiwi tires) you can purchase the Standard kit above.  It comes with the flat backing plate and the UHMW stiffener used in that install. ** See UHMW stiffener page for the shape that was used in installation on the Outback that is pictured.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you have a link to this?

Sure wish there was an install video for the 2019 Outback BooneDox standard install. A little worried drilling holes in the kayak without seeing it done first.
