On my first outing with my TI 202, I had great difficulty engaging the peddle's 'forward' and 'reverse' controls.
I'm wondering if it is important to have the peddles positioned together to make it easier to engage and change from forward to revers and back.
I'd be grateful of any help as I am worried that I am pulling too hard on the cables and might break them !!

For sure! If you have one foot forward... the fins are flat to the hull and can not rotate. Feet together to get the fins straight down when shifting.
