I'm New To This Forum, And I've Gotten Lots Of Good Advice Already! Thanks So Much To All.
My Question Is. Is There Really A Big Difference Between The Stock Main Sheet System For A 14 And The 5:1 With 2.25" Blocks Murray's.com Sell.

if you have the original blocks on your 14 then yes, but there is no difference in the blocks from murrays and Hobie which provides this site for free. I would get a harken 40mm carbo top and a 2.25" lower. call your dealer and ask for part number H2640(upper) and H194(lower) this will give you a 6:1 super low profile mainsheet system, I would also get a new mainsheet while your at it! If your dealer isn't close enough to drive to give them a call, I do not know any dealer that does not do mail order.

6:1? on a 14?

What about ways to make a 5:1 out of 14/16 stuff. Anyone?

Is a 6 to 1 really needed on a 14? I understand that there might be some little people sailing the 14 but go to the gym!
Kidding, what is the point of install a 6 to 1 other than just lightening the load on your hands? Am I missing something important here?

in fact, i switched to 6:1 low profile and liked it because I could get the boom closer to the traveler, but I hate the extra line that I have to sheet in with the 6:1 as opposed to stock blocks

seriously I know the length isnt that much different, but when you drop it or want to make a quick 180 from a broad reach to a beat in a small lake and you need to take it in in a hurry, it can be really frustrating. i might switch back this summer

I got a really nice extra 6:1 system with my new Nacra 5.2. It already has harken blocks on it so I gave the extra system to my g/f who is currently sailing the Hobie 14 that I had and is looking to buy it from me. She loves it!! The 6:1 system makes it alot easier for her to deal with the 14, so I guess there is a use for them!
