Greetings from OK. I just purchased a derelict 14 to restore. I bought it in AR, where this hobie did not need to be tagged. I got a bill of sale but we could not figure out where the HIN is at. OK requires it be titled, so I have to locate the HIN. Any idea where to look? I am also curious if there is any plywood in the amas. The gel coat is badly blistered and there appears to be a few soft spots. The fiberglass work is something I can do with no problems, but just curious if I will find any plywood.
Thanks
rlwinok

The search function of the forums works very well. Upper right menu. Use key words such as "Serial" and "Number" gets you: http://www.hobiecat.com/articles/boat-serial-number-location,15/

Using words related to hull construction and repairs will bring up tons of information for you.

There is a small plate of plywood at the transoms to help support rudder loads. The rest is fiberglass and foam fiberglass sandwich.

Greetings for Oklahoma.
Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.
Further research has led me to believe my Hobie 14 is a very early one, perhaps from 1968 to 1971 or 72. I cannot find any markings anywhere. Did the factory ever number the early ones at all? If so, where?
Thanks
Ray

Look on the front of the forward pylons (the aluminum that sticks out of each hull that supports the trampoline). There should be a number stamped on each one.
