We have good parties too.... but the beer truck for 14s would be stretching it, maybe a wagon with a keg on it?? 8)
It was hard to say how long to get there. We stopped off at Niagra Falls for the afternoon (VERY cool place, especially in the Wake of Fredrick) but it was all interstate and an easy drive, even with 4 teenagers in the van and doublestacked 14s in tow. I think 16 hours. I think you'll be suprised at how similar your area and ours is as far as town, people, lake etc.....We were pleasantly suprised to find New York was not too dissimlar than Iowa and we had a really good trip.
I am getting ALOT of inquiries about the event and plan on having the biggest 14 turnout in recent history. People from all over the MW, as well as Florida and the middle south have emailed. Wouldn't 25 boats be a hoot? :P

Damn, I forgot how much my boat weighed in at. It was only a few pounds over in Syracuse, but put on about 10 pounds for Delaware.

I'm going to guess 1968-279-185= 1504

That may not be a fair number, I mean Wrinkly was born in like 1875, right?? I asked him (in jest) how he got his name and he just looked at me like I had antlers. Just to follow it up, I asked him if he had ever not been wrinkly. He said no.

It took me a minute to get back to my chair after I fell out of it! Wrinkely was pretty hard on us, what with all his laughing and taunting us and running us up. I find it hard to believe he is 130 years old though....

OK, the story of how Wrinkley got his name:

Bruce (his real name) went to a worlds in South Africa, where the colloquialism for an older person is a "wrinkley" (it's actually British slang). Same thing as a "Q-tip" or a "blue hair" in the US. Somebody said he looked like a Wrinkley and the name stuck.

I first met him at the '91 17 Nationals on Lake Texoma. Sailing out to the starting area, he got knocked off his boat, which promptly sailed away from him. I saw him floating boatless and picked him up. That incident is typical of a "Wrinkley" adventure.

In 1998, he invited me out to drive his 20 at MidWinter's West while he crewed. Travelling with Wrinkley is an adventure, especially when it involves complicated boats, huge motorhomes and international border crossings.

Let's just say I'm glad I didn't get to visit the inside of a Mexican prison and that I made it home alive.

I forgot to mention, our webmistress for our Division/Fleet site is getting started on putting together the 14NA site (cool huh?) and we'll be doing on-line registration with paypal and everything. What I want is this: a couple of cool 14 pics that have NOT been in the magazine before.
I am thinking of a 3 day regatta, getting started about 10 and going until we're done all three days. I think we'll set it up to have lunch on the water (worked well with the 20/18s having jetskis bring lunch out, and having 2 dinners and a lunchtime BBQ for the last day during awards. Try to kick you outta town by 2-3pm on Sunday. Is a Friday Sat Sun deal going to work for all of you, or would you prefer something different?

Chris,
I don't mind even a 4 day event! I haven't been to a 14 Nationals since 1987 so I'm overdue. I will bypass the Nacra F17 championship this year to attend your event. My boat is ready to go NOW!

OK, Ok, last time I drink and type! No wonder I thought it was so funny!!

Let's try: 1984-279-185= 1520. Happy, Pat?? (I even checked my math!)

I have to say that Wrinkly is a great guy--he kicked my butt last year on a really dirty boat with a yellow sail, so I can't say much. The first time I met him, he had velcro sewn onto his shorts to keep the mainsheet handy. I thought that was pretty hard core (Old school??).

Dan, guessing you were born '68? not sure of your exact age. It's not that big of a deal, you're not "low" anyway, but you probably beat Pat for #3 start (unless you dig out an older/heavier boat).

OK, OK! I can't take the pressure! This is why I have a low sail number because it is easier to remember.

1984-279-185-37 = 1483

What does age have to do with it, anyway! There should be some midget or freak factor like if you are 4 feet tall and weigh 80 pounds or if you are 7 feet tall and weigh 120. I mean, Chris is like 6'10 and weighs 200--that is a lot more righting moment on the wire than I am at 5'9 and 185!!

Should we do a 3 day event or 4 day event? What does the crowd want?
