THe 16,14,17 all use the same rudders, I actually have two extra if you need them. I could sell them to you pretty cheap.

Drop me a PM with a price shipped to 32025 if you would please.

It is cool, people on this forum rarely flare up about newbie mistakes.

OK, you've got E-mail.

My heart sunk when I went to rig it and noticed this. Please tell me this is fixable. I have a bunch of extra frame parts but the extra front bar is dented bad so I cant use it but the little pin lock is good. I cant beleive I didnt see this before. I dont know how this could have happened. I dont know if I even need it if I keep the rigging tight do I?

Bummer. Not a big deal though. Just swap the cups and you'll be fine. Does anyone know if you should use an adhesive or is just riveting it ok?

So I can just brake the rivets on the good one and then replace?

What I coudlnt figure out is, how do you raise the mast yourself? I was thinking you could put the pin in and then use the forstay to lift it but I got to thinking and that is how this probably got broken (I was going to try it then I saw this). It's akward trying to set a 22' pole verticle into a little cup. Any pointers?

I might have an extra mast base.
The 14 mast is really easy to just hoist up and stuff in the cup without help. I'll take a look and get back to you.

I have an extra mast cup. Thanks for the offer though.

How do you hoist it? Like what do you do first and at what angle do you raise it?

I stand the mast up, base on the ground, in front of the crossbar between the hulls. Steady it with one hand and climb on the tramp. Have helper hold the end of the forestay (loosely no tension). With one hand high and one hand low, lift mast straight up and set in step.

You'll want to drill out the rivets. Using a cold chisel will probably oblong the holes. Aluminum is pretty soft.

I loosen the side stays all the way and just raise it normally with the pivot. The 14 mast is light. Grab the forestay, or your furled jib, and just jump in front and hook it up. It's easy to do and quick pins are nice for this. Then I just tension the rig with the side stays. I use the top hole in the front whether turbo or uni and rake it back as far as possible.

If you can get the little hinge that attachs to the mast cup and it makes raising the mast alot easier.

Looks like a nice little 14, I will look into the shipping and stuff and get back to you in the next day or two on the rudders.

Well, bad news. I'm considering these hulls garbage now that I am tearing into them. I'm going to fix the two worst delam spots on the decks so I dont put a foot through them and plug all of the holes with marine puddy, get the rudder going for as cheap as possible and just sail it untill the hulls are trashed. Part out the sails and tramp and frame (all in good condition) and save up for a much better/newer boat.

Raise your hand if your first boat was a huge mistake.
