Try these, will cost you less than $100 if you don't need cradles and under $200 if you do. :) :) :)

I made some of these. Work GREAT on soft and hard sand. 8) Not to good on uneven ground. :x VERY light, just put on hulls and tie to trailer.

David:

Glad to help. Just don't put holes in wheels like he says. And put a little silicone around the washers and connectors. They won't rust or corrode and are VERY light. Let me know how they work? Register for our site and join in the forum. www.tcdyc.com

YEAH, Thanks Doug, I'm starting to accumulate the parts for these. (I'm a bit out of town). I can only find 200 litre (40 Gallon, as opposed to the 17 that was reccommended) plastic drums, but I reckon they will work. For anyone else out there, these drums have a bigger diameter but will still fit under a Hobie tramp.

Dave:

Glad you found barrels. :D Big ones should work ok. 8) If they are to heavy, cut them down like ad says. Send me a photo when you get them finished and I will send you a photo of my boat and a few more photos of completed wheels.

Here is the info.

Just don't put the extra holes like he says. Also put some silicone around the connector and washers. You can use butter lids for the washers, so you don;t have to buy another barrel. Great for soft or hard sand, but not to good for uneven ground. Call me if you have nay questions. Join our forum www.tcdyc.com

I'm going to try to make my own set using his method, but I think I found a better solution for wheels:

They also have a 14 lb version that costs $10 more but supports 100 more lbs. Anyone have any thoughts on these?

Sailingbull:

The wheels look a little narrow. Do you ever go in soft sand? That would be my only concern. Here is the site for the 30 gal barrels.

Let me know how it goes and send photo when finished. Do you need cradles are can you use pipe insulation and wire ties? What type of boat?

As Doug said, surface area is key in soft sand. I personally like inflatable tires so I can adjust the pressure for the beach conditions. Plus they handle bumps much better than hard wheels.

Guys:

Someone at Pirates of the Caribbean told me he is using the little kids pool toy noodle looking thing. They are a little thicker than the pipe insulation.

Hey guys,
I just finished making some home-made beach wheels for a total cost of $125. It only took me about 30 minutes to assemble, not counting the hour that I spent waiting for the paint to dry.

Here is the link (pictures and instructions):

Anyone try wheelbarrow wheels? Say 4 of them? I can get them cheap and cannot find the soft drink barrels or the dock wheels.

Does anybody know, will 1" conduit hold the weight of and H16? I found some wheeleez beach wheels (balloon wheels) for sale, but they have a 1" bore and the guy who made these off of the pirate site used conduit that was 1.5". Any help with this would be great.
