Hull Repair Product Questions

The hulls of my H16 need to be repaired, as a novice fiberglass worker, what product types should I use?
Specifically: What weight of glass? What type of resin? Poly or epoxy? Any specific products you like or dislike? What grit of sandpaper?
If I don't care about the look, do I need to gel coat?

The bottom of the hulls have cracks in them and are worn down very thin. I want to reinforce and strengthen them.

Bottom job-

8oz glass tape in varying widths. Polyester (or vinylester) resin. Possibly 3/4 oz mat (if you need to rapidly build up areas). Sand paper, 80 to 220 grit for prep. Higher if you want to gelcoat and finish. A fellow Hobie sailor turned me on to the roloc sanding disk. Use it in a right-angle drill and it works very well for rapid material removal/prep. Acetone, brushes, mixing cups & sticks, dust masks/respirator, lots of disposable gloves.
