repairing the roller furler

Hi,

I bought a used Getaway and the roller furler's rope is tangled. I think fixing it is straight forward but wanted to get input from more experienced people:
1. Can the housing be taken apart easily? It looks welded together.
2. Assuming #1's answer is no, then do I just unwind the rope then wind it back up?

Should not have to dis-assemble to unwind the tangled line, but if you can't get at it... yes you can remove a "darby" ring to slide the assembly apart. I would try cutting the line first. The darby ring and bearings can be a pain.

Thanks - I fixed it. But it seems like far too much twine. It's about 15 feet. The jib seem to roll up in about 5 turns. Should I cut the twine down to 6 feet or so?

The line needs to fully furl the sail and leave a few extra turns... then lead back to the front crossbar.
