Forestay and Jib connection

First post....

I just purchased a new to me 2007 Hobie Getaway. I've only sailed monohulls before and decided this year to make the switch to a catamaran.

I was looking over things today to see what might need to be replaced and how rigging will go. So far, I've come across only one thing that has given me pause. My forestay appears to connect directly to the mast tang via a shackle. Immediately after the shackle is a swivel and and then the wire down to the other end. This is contrary to many setup instructions which appear to have a short wire (think it might be called a pigtail) which is between the tang and swivel. Looking online at pictures of rigged Getaways it also appears the head of the jib seems to be a good 2 feet below the tang. Mine looks like it will be within a foot. Am I missing something here?

Also, does the head of the jib attach directly to the forestay. I'm guessing this would obviously occur below the swivel.

You're missing a string that ties the top of the jib to the thimble on the luff wire - and the bottom connects via the shackle to the brindle/forestay connection - the owner's manual shows how it's rigged here: http://static.hobiecat.com/digital_assets/getaway-manual.pdf (page 10)

Is it just me, but the link opens the pdf manual, but stops at page 9.

I would recommend either to lock-tite or safety wire the shackle pins. My pin came loose, and pulled most of the way out. Literally, only a (screw) thread (that hooked on the edge of the grommet) kept the mast from falling on us.

I think Matt answered your question but to give some context we have a 2001 Getaway which appears to have the 'old' setup which Matt described on at least one other post.

Here's a picture of the top end with the pigtail (the black wire at the back is the lower forestay):

I think I'm right in saying that the old version doesn't require a line because of the extra pigtail above and below the swivel.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to replace the full shroud and stay set on the Getaway - I think I've figured out that I can use all new stay hardware with the old jib - just need the line Matt mentioned above to connect the top of the jib.
