One thing the family likes to do on a nice warm day is drop anchor in the lake for 1 or 2 hours & use the Getaway as a swim platform, diving off the wing seats etc. Boat traffic can rock the Getaway a little and that's fine but would like a quick & easy way to secure the mast a little better. Keep it from slapping back & forth.

We disconnect the main block from the main sail & let the main blow freely in the breeze & furl the jib. Or should I just leave the main sail sheeted tight & straight back hoping it weathervanes, (I actually haven't tried this method).

Whats the best way to do that?
Thanks, Steve C.

Don't leave the main sheeted... a recipe for quick capsize.
Why not drop the main?

Dropping the main wouldn't keep the mast rom slapping back & forth in boat wakes would it? Then I have to worry about people walking on or tripping over the mast.

Was hoping on tighting the rigging somehow.
Thanks, Steve C.

After furling the jib and dropping the mainsail. Tie the main halyard to a piece of line. Take that line and go around one shroud, then go around the other shroud then back to the main halyard then go back to the main sheet. Use the mainsheet to make everything nice and tight (don't overdo). stopsemfromflopen.

Hmm, No good way to do this without dropping the main?
Maybe a line from the main sheet block, around the shrouds & back to the main sheet block (in a triangle?
Maybe a line from the main sheet block all the way up to the bridle?

I should probably set up in the back yard & play around with some ideas.

Thanks, Steve C.

The more I think about it, maybe even an extra shroud line coming down from the mast tang, 3 or 4 feet shorter with a downhaul block. 6:1? Tighten up one shroud side in 20 seconds, done. When I think about it that makes the most sense. Am I missing something? No sail on the tramp to be in the way. No extra lines to get in the way.

Thanks, Steve C.

Do you have trap wires? If so, could you use those to do what you described?

Ya, I didn't think of that one. Thanks, Steve C.
