My tiller system on 2020 Hobie Getaway (reversed bows) has always been stiff to move. I notice now that the end caps of the tillers, where the pins are screwed in, rotate freely on older getaways but not on mine.
Should these end caps rotate so the tillers can move more freely when connected to the crossbar?
If so how do I free them up.
At the moment the system is so stiff that the pins are being pulled out.
Follow up question... Why is there a screw on one side of the crossbar near the endcap but a fixed rivet on the other side?
Thanks in advance for any expertise or views on this.

Yes, they should rotate.

Thank you for your swift response and diagrams.
None of them rotate nor did they from the time I received the boat.
Do I need to remove all the end caps and somehow relocate the shims and caps? Or is it a case of buying a new kit? It's odd because this was a brand new boat and I would have thought these parts should have been assembled correctly from the start.

Your dealer should fix that under warranty.

Hi Matt
I've received tiller connection kit 07 roto. Part no 1957.
However there are no Mylar shims as detailed in your PDF.
Are these necessary or have they been phased out? Or maybe the dealer has sent the wrong parts?
Thank you again in advance for your advice on this.
Kind regards
Ashley

Tillers all fixed.
The new endcaps are freely rotating in the 3 designated places after sanding down to the required diameter.

The mylar shims have been phased out apparently.

Thank you Hobie, Matt and Rayomarine for the advice and quick response.

The steering system works a treat
:D
