In Naples, at Vanderbilt beach (about 45 mintues from Ft. Myers) they rent Waves, and had a Getaway in their fleet of 4 boats.
Sorry I don't remember the name of the company.
Last time I was there - the Getaway was 'broken' and looked like it had not been sailed in months. The guys renting the boats know absolutely nothing about sailing or about Hobies.
My first time a few years ago, I didn't either, and they sent 4 of us out on a Wave. After about 10 minutes we noticed water washing over the Lee hull and onto the tramp. Drain plug was open.
I completely agree on trying before buying...but not always easy to do. I had never sailed a 16 or a Bravo before buying. I can only say .. the Bravo, Wave, and 16 are all VERY different boats. I'd guess the Getaway is comparable to other Hobies... but unique as well.
Good Luck!
