Sail regatta at Lake Poinsett , SD June 21st. . Practice on Saturday. June 20th. We will be holding the event at Pier 81 resort. Which is located on Highway 81. west side of the lake. The location has a Nice sand beach. Sunday will have a great meal , music. and race. In case of bad weather the regatta will be held the following Saturday June 27th.

This is the 8th annual regatta sponored by the Lake Poinsett Sailing Academy. It is a small regatta so there is always room for more boats. We usually have --1 20ft. 3-4 16's. 2 or 3 Getaways, up to 6 wave's, and a couple of monahauls, even some cabin type boats have joined us. All classes of boats sail at the same time. Just to let everyone know the wave has won by handicap 4 out of the 7 regattas that we have had. When ever we have good wind the wave wins. Last years regatta was sailed in a bit too much wind. Of the 15 boats or so only 5 made it across the finish line and if a lake wave hadn't knocked me off the boat (luckily I grabbed a tailing line and pulled my self back on to the boat), I may have beaten the Getaway that came in first . I still won by handicap.

Just to let everyone know. Regatta at Lake Poinsett was fantastic except the problem that the wind all but totally died just before the start of the race. The day before should would have been the best day to sail. We had great wind Saturday and had all but no wind on Sunday. But We had the best turn out of boats for the Regatta that we have ever had. We had 17 boats , broken down to-- 6 Waves, 2 getaways, 1- 20 , 5 -16's 1 - Hunter18, and 2 - lazers. The best Sail of the weekend for me was Saturday helping to fly the 20. Just have to say Wow on that boat.
