The Forestay is the forward wire. Bridles are the two to attach to the bows. The aft wires are Shrouds.
Wires should be snug while on the beach, but do loosen when the sail is full and bending the mast. The lee side is typically loose while sailing. Wave action can jolt the rig when lightly loaded and is a concern when wires are too loose. You can tighten the main sheet to pull some tension on the rig... that might help get through some boat wakes. You can run a line or shock cord to the shackle attaching the two bridles to the forestay adjuster and back to the forward crossbar. Tensioning this will take slack out of a loose rig.
