Hello!

My location is Northern Illinois on a 140 acre lake.

I have a 2012 Wave (purchased new at the time), Lot's of fun taking it out over the years.

I have a used calkins trailer that has been set up for Hobie transport but that has only been used for storing the Wave during the winter up off of the ground.

I was able to purchase 1793 tie downs.

But I am not sure how to accomplish the tie down securely.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

For securing the tie-downs, I’d recommend attaching them to the trailer's frame, making sure they’re snug but not overly tight to avoid damaging the hull. Cross them over the boat for extra security, and if you can, add some padding under the straps where they touch the hull. That way, you’ll keep the Wave secure without causing any wear and tear. Enjoy the lake!

It looks like the 1793 is intended to be used on the Hobie 14/16 - boats with hull pylons. The metal bracket attaches to the pylon bolt. No such bolt exists on the Wave.

You should be able to just use two long tiedown belts routed over the hull crossbars fore/aft and clipped down to the trailer frame (you may need to install some eyebolts to the frame of your trailer for attachment). Another good method is to use four heavy ropes wrapped around each corner of the crossbar and tied down to the trailer frame. Lot’s of ways to tie the boat down, just make sure it’s secure and that the ropes/straps don’t chafe the hull.
