My wife and I sailed at a resort on our honeymoom. The staff took us out on a getaway and he took us on a wild ride, my wife was not impressed. Another staff took me out and said that him like the getaway best because it was faster and better to sail. The same staff took me out in a wave and showed me how to sail; I sailed the wave for the next few days and took my wife back out. I will be buying one in the future, but wanting to know as much as I can about the boats and about sailing. If anyone can help, I would be thankful. Any books that are good to read would be good too.

Well there are lots of stuff to consider:

A) Storage. If your storing it outside it dosnt matter. Storage inside is another thing - we all have finite storage space. The Wave is easier to fit in a small garage. The Getaway will fit in a larger garage.

B) Who is going sailing with you? If you sail alone 90% of the time, the Wave is the one to get - you can easily handle a Wave alone. There is no such thing as too much wind for a Wave to ever go sailing (I had my Wave out on MLK day in 15-30mph of wind, it was a gnarly ride and I would not have taken a bigger cat out in that much wind). Getaway will handle more people/weight and high winds will require a crew but you have more capacity for cargo. Getaway has more room - not that the Wave is cramped or crowded.

C) Performance. Getaway will be faster. However there will be days with too much wind to go sailing on Getaway. I have yet encounter too much wind on the Wave.

D) Price. Getaway, with more bells and whistles will cost more.

Both boats are a TON of fun and you cant go wrong with either. Think subtle differences - no night and day differences. GOod luck!

I am curious as to know why your wife did not like the Getaway. Was it too scary for her? Was she not comfortable?

My wife loved the Getaway because of the backrests. Now that I have a wave, she won't go out with me unless I put the backrest on. I personally like the wave better since I go out all the time by myself. Everything about it is easier. The Getaway was fun, especially if you have a friend or two with you, but can be a lot to handle solo. Everything else scuzzlebutt was spot on.

This is the wife... When we went out on the getaway he took us pretty far out into the ocean and it was sort of choppy, and there were no back rest on it. It was a little scary for me. Then my husband went out with one of the staff, and learned how to sail the wave, and took me out and it was very nice, much more calm than the first time we went out.
I think around where we live would be great for the wave, because most the of time it would be just me and him on it, and it does not get too windy so I could enjoy a day of that.
I'm wondering what it would be like with the back rest on it, I'm sure I would like it much better, yall could let me know what you think? :D

Its nice with the back rest. You'll love it and the boats are inexpensive, easy to hide, haul and sail.

check thebeachcats.com or catsailor.com or craigslist or call any of the good hobie dealers within driving distance. Brad and Sunjammers in Panama City, Jim at the Des Moines Sailing Center or the dog, down in Dallas(?)
I wouldn't be able to tell you what a good deal is, but whatever you're happy with is a good deal!

Strictly Sail in Cincinnati is a dealer and the Cincinnati Boat Show is going on right now. You might be able to get a good deal at the show!

I guess this question was directed to me...

Well, my 6K got me the boat, traveler kit, trailer with mast stand & winch, and all the necessary items needed to go sailing. This was pre-tax.

You may need life vests or other optional equipments - like the backrests.
