Hi,
I'm going to buy a wave but I'm looking for a little advice. First my plan is to double stack the wave with my H18 with SX wings. Does anyone have a slick way to do this? Based on measurements I see 3 options:
1) put the wave on the bottom of the double stack (I have a custom double stack trailer) but this seems impracticle
2) disassemble the wave and stack the hulls around the wings
3) take the wings off - I know it should be simple to remove wings, but the PITA factor says it won't happen. None of my winged friends put the wings on again once they start double stacking.

Anyone have a great idea?

And that leads me to my 2nd question, club vs classic. I like the idea of the 3 piece tramp but if I'm disassembling the boat I don't want to relace the tramp. I do that with my SuperCat 20 and it is annoying. However I would like the option of the 3 piece in the future and I've read the complexity of converting and don't want to go down that road. What I have not seen answered based on my searches is if you can convert a club to a classic by adding hooks to the tramp tracks. Is that possible?

BTW I never thought I'd be buying a wave given that I own a H18 and SC20... But after having my 8 year old son take me out sailing (yes he skippered) this weekend on a friends wave, he's hooked. We even flipped and he was still smiling! It is a cool little kids boat!

I hopebthis can help you.

I have the wave club with the cup holders in the tramp.

And it's simple to take apart and put together...

Once you good 15 min.

The only thing is that you can't put a traveler on the club..

Thanks for the info, but what I'm really curious about is how do I convert a club to a classic? (3 piece tramp to a 1 piece)

Just asking... What would be the reason? It is not as stiff and hangs a little lower to the water. If you are car topping and rigging and de-rigging alot... that is the purpose of the one piece.

There are 6 slide hooks you place in the tracks to hook into the one piece tramps cable. You add a bit more hardware ropes and pulleys as well. All the parts are shown in the catalog Page 45 upper right (September 2016 catalog)

My thinking is that everyone appears to want a 3 piece tramp, and my understanding is that it is hard to go from classic to club because they don't have the tramp tracks. So my thought was that I would buy the club to get the tramp tracks but since I'll be disassembling it to double stack with my H18 with wings, I would retrofit it with the classic tramp. Basically do the reverse conversion to give me future flexibility. Make sense? Am I making a fundamental misunderstanding of how the classic and club differ?

Replying to my own post. :) Upon further reading it appears that both the classic and club versions now use tramp tracks, is this correct? If this is true then it should be pretty straight fwd to convert between classic and club tramps, just buy the hooks that slide into the tramp track and the cable tensioning parts and you're set. I think this probably explains why my questions didn't make much sense, I was still under the impression that the classic version didn't have tramp tracks!

The early classic waves did not have the tramp tracks. It is possible to install them, I did. In addition to adding the track to the outside, aluminum strips need to be installed on the inside of the boat for the tracks to screw into. I took my time and got it all lined up, match drilled the holes and used a combination of 1/4-20 bolts and SS screws to attach the tracks, and of course lots of sealant around the screws.
I do love the tightness of the 3 piece tramp as it really holds the hulls together and makes a tight boat.

Where do you live? I have a classic wave that is going to be for sale real soon. It's beaten up, but it sails well and has a trailer. I'm in the SF bay area.

I just wanted to follow up in case someone reads this post in the future. New waves use the same hulls between classic and club so both have the tramp track. The classic has some metal hooks that slide into the track and the tramp hooks into those. So essentially you can now convert between a club and classic by replacing the tramp and buying a couple hardware bits for the classic tramp. Also the bridle wires differ a little (carabiner style on classic vs padeye on club) but I think those difference are pretty minor and I don't have a complete list of them. :)

I picked up the new wave on Monday and the kids are super excited. :)
