How to separate mast

I just bought a used 1999 Wave. The mast is broken and I now understand that it comes in two sections, an aluminum base and a fiberglass upper piece. The aluminum section is broken and I am being told that I should be able to separate them in order to replace just the aluminum section.

Right now I cannot separate the two sections. I've tried WD40 on the joint, applying solvent to the seam and hitting it with a screwdriver and hammer. It doesn't want to move. Any suggestions on how I can do this?

Heavy line wrapped multiple times around the base to cinch down under load. Tied to a post / Tree. Same around the CompTip 4-6 wraps to spread the compression load. Use a come-along or vehicle to apply slow pulling loads to pull them apart.

I used some 3M fiber glass polish and polished the comptip end and it slides in and out of the lower mast section very easy now. Once you get yours apart give the polish (or wax) a try, it really helps.

Thank you guys for the advice. I separated the two parts today after several attempts. Once I found a rope that would hold the load, I got them separated. I will polish the comp tip now prior to any new mast being installed.

Unfortunately, I did bend the "luff track" a little bit at the top of the mast.



I don't know if I need to do anything to fix this but... I put a spacer (two carpenter chisels) in the track and set it out in the sun. I hope this will help get the track straight again. Any thoughts would be appreciated. "One step forward..."
