Which fish finder and why?

What fish finders have you expierenced that work and which ones don't?

I have no idea what I'm doing but I love it!

I am using an Eagle cuda 300 now. It's fairly cheap (80 bux) but tempermental when battery level drops below 10.5 volts. I use it mainly for depth as in fish ID mode everything is marked as a fish.

It is an easy machine to operate, especially in Auto mode.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to research that. Any other brands to consider?

The three Lowrance fish finders that Hobie offers all work very well. Here's a little info on each:

1. Lowrance x50DS black and white display, dual beam fish finder is $134.95. This is a great fish finder if you are looking to fulfill your basic needs.

2. Lowrance X67C color display fish finder goes for $189.95. Compared to the x50DS you get less chance of electrical interference from other devices and you can see fish that are hidden in cover thanks to the color clarification.

3. Lowrance M68C, color and navigation package, built in GPS, runs $419.00. It has memory storage for marking up to 1000 waypoints and many other great display and system features. No need to buy a GPS if you own this model.

These 3 fish finders can be installed on any Hobie kayak using the Hobie fish finder installation kit (part #72020011) and the RAM fish finder mount (part # 72023007).

I am using a Humminbird 788Ci Combo GPS FF (had a 385 combo but I upgraded to the larger screen 788ci). works well and the screen is big enough to see easily. I have this FF mounted in Mad Frog's "liberator" mount that has a transducer arm mounted to it, the Liberater is mounted to a Scotty FF holder which in turn is set into a Scotty rail mount on my Pro Angler side rail. no holes to drill through the hull and everything except the battery is all on the Liberater mount. I use a small 5 amp 12 volt gell cell battery in a waterproof box.

the only disadvantages to the setup above was the initial cost of the FF (expensive!) and I had weeds get stuck on the transducer arm but I can easily reach over and flip the arm over to remove the weeds.
