Quest 13

G'day. I am thinking of buying a quest 13 for fishing freshwater dams and possibly a little saltwater but very rarely. I am asking for some recommendations and setups that people have. I would like to know if they are at all tippy and overall weather or not they are a decent fishing kayak. Cheers

I have had a Quest 13 since 2007 and it has been a good kayak. I use it only in salt water and have been known to drag it over oysters, docks, rocks, etc. It has some scuff marks on the bottom, but no leaks to date. It can be a little tipsy if you lean to far over, but I have never turned it over (knock on wood). There are wider kayaks, but the Quest 13 is fairly nimble and fast vs the trade-off for wider. I don't use a rudder and haven't found it to be an issue as an extra stroke on one side keeps it on track. I keep it pretty simple with just an adjustable scotty rod holder in the center and the extenders for the rod holders in back just to get the rods up higher.

The Quest is a very good paddle kayak. It kind of gets lost in all the Hobie Mirage fleet, but it is a stable, no frills kayak that is very durable. If you are buying it second hand, check for cracks and holes in the hull and look closely at the hardware. Otherwise, not much can go wrong with it. I've had mine in just about every salt and freshwater scenario imaginable(and beyond) and the Quest is a kayak you can really count on.

I do not work for Hobie, but they are a pretty decent company.
