ok Hobie we're still waiting for solution!!! Im killin my bait! Almost ready to put the pump on the outside dangling over the edge into the water like on everybody else's home made livewells....those rarely seem to clog and if they do it's super easy to clear. I'm sure you don't want your beautiful hobie livewell all ghetto rigged with hoses and such stickin out, SOOOOOOOO, give us the upgrade. I know you guys got it. Come on, anyone that can come up with the mirage drive has got to have a solution

I almost bought the livewell, but didn't like the space it took up, so I opted for the simple minnow bucket and drag it behind the kayak. When moving a distance I pick it up, rest it on the side of my Outback and toss it back in upon arrival. I also did not like having to reach behind me to get bait.

Though a friend has found it makes a pretty good cooler for beer....................ck

Still waiting here too. No good fix has been suggested that doesn't also get blocked by weeds. Its a tough one.

Looks like a small gauge saltwater resistent screen would be best. That shouldn't clog, should it?

I have done a lot of tournament fishing and I truly believe in a recirculation pump. That my friends is what this livewell needs. same pump with two valves on it. If you need new water turn one valve on after turn that valve off and turn the recirc. valve on. I am in the process of building myself one now.

Not quite sure I follow you but sounds interesting. Do you think you could show us an illustration or perhaps pictures?

I would think a longer clear plastic pick up tube with a plugged off end, and holes only drilled along the sides for water pick-up would work.

This should allow the weeds to flow off the tube with forward motion.

Anybody try this yet?

The issue will be priming of the pump. The scoop is designed to do that as you pedal forward through the water.

Here is the easiest and cost effective way maybe 35 cents.......http://texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/vi ... .....Steve

I think it was just a faucet screen you can get them at the hardware store in the same little boxes you buy your hardware like nuts in bolts.....

Has there been any solution from Hobie that will keep grass, or small kelp particles from entering the pump ?
---------------------
I have a suggestion.

If priming the pump is a problem, why not use a priming bulb to prime the tank from the inside.
-Something like an attwood priming bulb with a short length of hose.

This way users could use a water pick up hose with holes along the side, or downward water pick up hose that would naturally curve with forward motion.
I think this would be less inclined to suck in grass which is the culprit.
-----------------------
When I fish in the kelp I have to completely shut the livewell Off or it will suck in small particles and clog.
I have to bail fresh water inside to keep bait alive.

There must be a better way.....
