Keeping Fish

I was wondering where you guys keep your fish? I have been using an ice chest, but its a bit cumbersome. I was wondering if anyone has rigged up something to keep ice in, inside the hull.


I currently have a mirage revolution.

Depending on the size of the fish you wish to keep, some of those deavier duty, zipper topped, large cooler bags work well.

Neat idea. Never even knew those existed.

I use a Creative feathers fish bag in the bow compartment. I don't care for the ice pack thing it came with, so I doublebag a bag of ice and throw it into the fish bag before I head out. If you don't doublebag the ice, it will leak slightly as the ice melts. The bag has great capacity and stays very cool - after 4 or 5 hours in 80+ degree temps, I only have a cup or two melted out of an 8 lb bag. It can be a little awkward slithering up to open the bow, unzip the bag and get a big fish in, but once they're in, they're not going anywhere.

I look into both of these. The ice chest did well, until it shifted and threw me off balance. Lets just say that my rod/reel was on its last leg anyway, heh

My solution for this is as follows:
1. go to http://www.watertrailgear.com and look in the coolers and bags section. The right one for the forward compartment is triangular at 36L by widest end 19 wide. Fits perfect in the bow compartment of my revo.
2. go to wallyworld to the cooler section by sporting goods and get the roll of flexible steri water bubbles for freezing and because its 2in round seperated water bubbles trim it to size, (plus in a pinch you can pop them and drink).
3. The cooler bag has a thin insulate reflective lining. This is no good for fish which will easily cut or puncture it. Solution is to call a pool installer that has remnants of heavy vinyl pool liner which they will give you for free. Get 3m 5200 and cut the vinyl to size and attach sides with the 3m to form a sleeve to insert in the cooler bag. Leave enough room at the top to roll down and clamp. When done for the day pull the sleeve of fish and rinse. No smell residue in your cooler bag.

I have looked into a few catch bags and here are a couple options for those interested. For Ice the best method is frozen water bottles that you can always use for drinking if needed. Stash a few iced bottles into the bag.
