Fishing from a sport

Does anyone out there fish from a sport? I have a revo but considering a sport to use for quick trips after work on some small lakes & ponds. Am concerened about the weight capacity of the sport. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Look up some of the earlier posts from apalach. He's always fishing from his "wife's" Sport -- seems to enjoy it more than his Outback. It's definitely much easier to handle and transport. The Sport does have some size and weight limitations though.

Thanks, read everything I could find that apalach posted. Would like to get input about weight limits on the sport. I go about 199 ~ 201, give or take a big mac or two. Is that pressing the limit? I've read two weight ratings, 225 & 245. Thanks.

The Sport has a smaller cockpit than the other Mirage kayaks. I'm about 180# and 5' 10" and am quite comfortable with the Sport, but operate the pedals at their maximum extension.

The boat is fun and maneuverable...


...but tends to squat at higher speeds. This normally wouldn't be a problem unless you were carrying a lot of weight in the well.


The boat handles well and fits about anywhere.


I think it's a great little boat and should probably work for you at 200# and up to about 6'.

I just bought a used Sport for fishing in some backwoods trout ponds in northern Minnesota. It fits inside my suburban so I don't need to worry about low branches scraping it off of my roof as I drive in on logging trails. At 5'11" and 185# it will be a little tight but not bad. Won't be taking it out on any big water though.

I'm in the process of adding an anchor tolley system. The perfect spot to end the trolley at the back of the kayak would be at the drain plug. Has anyone figured out a way to use the drain plug for this and is it strong enough to hold up to the strain? If not, where would you place the back padeye and will the tri-split rivets hold the padeye OK?

I am 6'3" and my son is 6'1", we both felt the Sport was too cramped and uncomfortable in the cockpit area.

I have a sport and an outback, weight 245lbs. I don't have any problem fishing out of the sport. I've even sailed it a few times.

The sport is very easy to load in comparison. The feed back from my friends is that People over 6' often complain about being too cramped.

I fish lakes with the sport, and have been very suprised how fast it is with just standard fins.
