I went out fishing yesterday and got caught by a wave that washed over the kayak on the way out through the surf. My livewell didn't work when I turned it on. The battery was fully charged. After about 3 hours in the sun all of a sudden the livewell started up. I assume it dried out. Has anyone else seen this problem. Is there a solution?
Mike

Hi Mike,

The battery and connections on the livewell are all pretty watertight and should not be affected by a wave washing over the unit. The first thing that comes to mind for me as a reason for your livewell not turning on is the possibility that your switch may have some corosion. How long have you had your livewell? You may want to inspect the switch and clean off any corosion and then see how it performs.

Thanks I will look at the switch. I have had the live well for about 8 months, this is the first problem.
Thanks
Mike

the drainage issue when you turn the pump off.....is their any kind of cap i could place over the pump outflow just after i shut the pump off? Id like to see some pictures of modifications that any of you did to fix this problem...

ordered my livewell dec 1.....eagerly waiting with baited breath.

i cant wait to throw live eels, snapper blues, minnows and the occasional fat blue gill in their.....the live well is gonna really open up my fishing to new levels.

I'll try and find the pics. The condom method....The problem can be solved of,, "turning the pump off and preventing the water from flow back out",, by placing a small balloon over the pump out flow opening,,with a very selective size hole in it. The correct size hole will not greatly restrict the water pump out flow but when the pump is off it will collapse in and clog the valve opening and prevent the back flow. get a pack and trial and error with sizing off the hole cut in the tip. :D

See this thread for pics:
