Outback or revolution?

Need help deciding between the revo or the outback. I fish lake mead and lake mohave arizona mainly. I will be doing some trips to san diego for sea bass and such from time to time. I narrowed my choices to the revo or the outback. Keep in mind that lake mead can be very very windy without warning. Thanks in advance. I plan on making a couple trips in the spring to oex of oceanside and renting both to fish on before I purchase.

I can only speak for the revolution and I highly recommend it. I have two.
The revolution cuts through wind like butter. I have pedaled against a 15-20 mph headwind with barely more effort than no wind. Yes the wind slows you a bit but you are not working much harder to get where you are going. I have left paddlers
behind with my Turbo fins against a good headwind. The revolution hull is quite good against the wind and chop.

Outback is a better fishing machine and the revo is a better traveler. Where I fish the way I fish the Outback is hands down the best. If you are going to troll over long distances the revo may be the better choice. It all depends on how you want to use it. I spend a lot of time hovering over tops jigging 12 foot deep traveling 50 yards and fishing over another top.

Thanks for the input. I am almost 100% sure I am going with the revo. I will be doing a lot of trolling for the big stripers at willow beach so I believe it is the best choice for me.. Thanks for the input..Whoohooo this is going to be great!

I've only had my Outback 2 months but have had a ball in that thing. The lake I fish on (Beaver Lake Arkansas) has some huge stripers in it, world record class. I plan on learning how to fish for them this year also. I was crappie fishing this fall and a guy in a motorboat came by trolling and hooked and landed about a 30 lb stripe right beside me. All I could think about was how much fun that would be in my kayak. I was in a Wilderness ride at the time. Either way you go you'll have a blast.

We bought the Sport and the Outback in 2009, then traded them in for a Revo and a TI in 2010. The Revo isn't as stable as the Outback (which is like a mini aircraft carrier), but it's a lot easier to move. For our money and use, we prefer the Revo.

Fishing big water like you do you should really try

I did demos on both just yesterday. I wasn't even going to demo the revo because I was convinced the Outback was for me. The dealer talked me into letting him through the Revo on the truck. He told me newbies (especially seniors ) are way too concentrated on stablilty to the point they often buy Outbacks only to find out the Revo was a better fit.

When we got to the local lake I tried the Outback first. I just loved it. I shook it side to side as hard as I could and could not make it tip. I sat sideways in the seat dangling my legs in the water to make certain I could reach and access the entire rear well. I also moved forward to access the bow storage very easlily. I was sold and reaching for my credit card. The dealer said just try the Revo. I did just so I did not feel bad since he brought it .

I'm so glad I did. The difference in stablity was noticeable but very minimal. I performed all the same stability tests and there was really not much difference.
However, the difference in performance was dramatic. It was faster, smother and easier to peddal.

I really love the utilty trays and extra two rod holders in the Outback but they do not compare to the performance edge of the Revo.

I still have not pulled the trigger but I'm now leaning very heavily toward the Revo. The big problem is I'm comparing two really nice kayaks

The revolution is a great trolling and fishing machine salt water or fresh water along with all of its other benefits ie: good paddling kayak, good sailing kayak, very stable and maneuverable especially with a sailing rudder.

Where are you fishing in the 10K. I live in the area

The picture is me exiting Sand Fly Pass into the Gulf. I joined the Everglades Kayak Fishing 2011 Paddle-In event which they host every year in February. I met up with a friend from a local kayaking group ( I live in SE Florida) and we set out from the West Ranger Station of Everglades National Park in Everglades City.
We went across Chokoloskee Bay and out Sand Fly Pass with the outgoing tide. We fished the Gulf making our way over to Indian Key for the EKF hosts picnic. We then returned with the incoming tide via Indian Pass back to Chokoloskee Bay and fished there then back to the put in at the Ranger Station.

EKF is out of Chokoloskee and they run kayak fishing tours off a mothership but only transport their own kayaks. Great bunch of folks if you ever want to book a kayak fishing tour with them.

Thanks. I'm north of there on Marco Island. Hope to make the party next year. Do you ever have any problems with water depths for the Mirage Drive going out of Choko ?

I cruise with a depth/fishfinder and also use iNavx chartplotter on my iphone (50.00 app). That helps keep me in the deeper channels but there are some oyster bars you come across and in a foot of water you can still flutter stroke
your way across them but on low tide sometimes you just have to lock your fins and paddle across. I hit an oyster bar first year out there and punched my masts through the fins but heat weld & duct tape made em good as new.

If you follow a straight line from the Ranger Station to either Sand Fly Pass or Indian Pass you will miss the oyster bars. Though you should have a Chartplotter out there if you navigate around the mangrove islands. They all look alike and easy to get lost.
