For those of you who troll, what is the most number of lines you would have in the water while trolling? Granted, there are regulated limits per person depending on the state, but aside from that, if you had 2 people on your kayak how many lines would you have in?

I ask because on my 17t I can troll no problem with one lien on each side. But a buddy and I did some trolling recently and had 2 lines each - 1 down rigger and one top water. I figured that because we would have hem at different depths and on different sides of the kayak, it wouldn't be a problem. But we constantly got tangled.

I think when you have more than 2 in the water you definitely need to be conscious of your direction:turning and keep the kayak constantly moving.

Any other thoughts?

Lately I have only been keeping one line in the water. When I use two lines if I hook one fish I usually hook another. I use Power Pro braid which has a PHD in tangle. Braid can do a half hitch around anything in less than a second. After unhooking the fish I will spend the next 20 minutes re rigging because I can't untangle.

From the 4 Hobies I've owned, I've done my fair share of tangling, er I mean trolling
Whether it's livebait slow trolling or dragging artificial lures, IMO 2 is the limit if you ever intend to turn or if you're aiming for fish that might fight in circles like King Mackerel or Mahi Mahi.
Otherwise you should be able to get away with trolling one diving plug and one surface lure (like a feather lure), as long as the surface lure is farther back than the diving lure so it will pass over the diving plug when you make GENTLE turns.
