I have a new Garmin and want to hook it up to a Hobie Lowrance Install kit battery. The battery plug does not mate with the Garmin fishfinder.... any way to modify this or must I get a Lowrance fishfinder ?

For a battery you can use whatever kind of plug you want, I'm using the plugs from the Genius chargers. The Lowrance cable has bare wires and you add the plug that comes with the Hobie kit. The Garmin must have come with a battery cable? One end should go to the ff and the other end should go to the battery.

On the Lowrance there were two wires that weren't used I cut them off and sealed the ends with a bit of heat shrink. You probably want the red and one of the blacks but I would check the installation manual to be sure.

He confirmed that it's black and red, there should be a brown and blue leftover for other accessories.

Indeed....not 2 black, but 1 black and one blue.....makes it simple....I'll tie off the brown and blue just as you did.
Thanks Brian..
