Hi. 1st time poster. I own a 2013 Rev 11 and 2013 Revo 13. Tired of wet bum and am seriously considering a 2016 demo Revo 13 that just came up at the local dealer.

This demo has some hull deformation where it was strapped down to racks. I've seen on YouTube some pretty severe hull deformation completely fixed and I believe this demo can have similar results.

However, my concern with this one is that even when the hull is corrected there is an area around the support tube (between the hatch and mirage hole) that extends above the rest of the hull. The picture isn't the best but if you visualize the hull popped back to a straight line, you can see the high spot that would remain. I would be less concerned if the high spot was more in the center because it could act like a bit of a "rocker" to the hull design. The hulls on both my revo 11 and revo 13 and are flat all the way down the keel.

Looking for your expert opinions. Is a hull not completely flat something to be concerned about ?

Also, are kayaks actually stamped with "demo" in the hull, chosen as demo because they are sub-standard in some way ?

Also, how do I attach the pictures to this post ?

Thanks

My Revo 2015 hull protrudes like that around the mast support as well, maybe not to that degree, hard to tell with the pics tho. I have only owned it 2 weeks and assumed it was normal... Is it not?? I am curious to see the answer to this as well, as mine was not a demo model. Is yours actually marked in the hull as "demo".

My 2015 Revo13 protrudes as well in that area. Guessing that's the design.

My revo 16 does that too. It will wear as you scrape it along ramps etc.

I believe caused by flattening of hull and the rigid bracing leaves that proud. Made worse if yak stored flat

You can try heating and pushing top and bottom apart with a jack or wedges.

A more permanent solution, if you dont intend sailing, could be to unscrew mast tube. It is threaded through top hole with a screw head bolt at bottom. Use long bladed screwdriver down tube. Cut tube, cap/seal stub and reinsert to reseal top hole. This will remove the bracing which causes the bump.

Odds are you will also have "bumps" at the mirage drive slot a and transducer scupper hole. Removal of mast tube could possibly expose mirage slot edge to more wear

Some deviation in that area of the hull is normal due to built in supports and the rotational molding process...in the photos you posted it looks like the hull may have been warped by storing long-term, right side up on cross bars. I feel like the effect on performance will be negligible. Demo kayaks have an etched "demo" on the hull, and usually have imperfections not affecting performance.

I believe the "DEMO's" come with a full (and transferable) warranty from the time of original purchase from the dealer, and I imagine the price is correspondingly attractive. Unless you are planning to enter races, I doubt that you would even notice it on the water.

You can try to get the dent out by putting a little internal pressure on the area (like wooden bracing) and some boiling water poured over the area. If you have success, rebrace and repeat until you're satisfied. Then let it sit for awhile to stabilize.

Other than looks, it shouldn't affect your boat in any way. I would not remove the sailing tube, as it provides rigidity to the hull structure. 8)
