A brand new kayak with a long line of scratch (14 feet)!!!!. That's what myself and the dealer saw when we opened the box. I was really sad when I saw it but still bought it ... I'll go back today and ask outdoor provision to discount this kayak so I can stop my wife from nagging. He asked me if a car has a noticeable long lines of scratch at middle section on one side, am I still buying it at a regular price? Hmmm...I think she has a point. I will find out today if dealer can make a price adjustment or throw me a stand up bar or replace this with a real brand new one with no scratches. Sorry hobie but I think my wife has a point. 5% discount must be applied in this kayak I think.
What you guys think? Any similar experience? I just think Hobie needs to improve their packaging and learn that the word NEW means everything is 100% in excellent condition.

Sure you didn't receive a demo model?

Good news is after a few usages it would probably look like that anyway, most likely you will forget about it. If you are fussy like that most superficial scratches can be smoothed out.

Does no harm to ask for a discount though if received that way.

I just think an item classified as brand new in general should not have scratches. Any scratches shall be subject for price adjustment. That's how you encourage sellers improve something in their handling, shipping and packaging process. They may need to bubble wrap it inside the box and announce to their employees that hull scratches will do scratch their bonus down. I owned my PA 14 for almost 1 year now and you'll not see any scratches on the sides. Bottom scratches is fine but not on the sides.

Bummer...I would have refused it initially. Hopefully it will be righted.

When you and the dealer saw the kayak was scratched and you think that is unacceptable, why did you take delivery? I'm pretty sure you don't have to accept damaged goods. If you took delivery thinking you could get a discount for the damage, that's kind of a gamble.

All you need to do is ask... The dealer can do that for you. Scratches though... very unusual... in the box.

Matt, Dealer and I saw it right after opening the box. I asked price adjustment the following day actually and just waiting for their decision. I was thinking of not taking it but cannot wait for another few months. I posted in this forum so you can hear customer complains hoping you will do something at your end to not package something that is already scratched at your end.
