December is middle of winter here, the water is only in the 60's that far north (ft lauderdale area), too cold for us natives, you need drysuits IMO. If your going for big game fish, head down to Islamadora area and jump on a charter, the game fishing grounds are too far out to be practical for yak fishing. (I'm only talking big game fish here, if that's your interest) The further south you go in the keys the water gets warmer. We have a souped up TI with massive sailsets and big ole twin outboards that's been hardened for offshore, and even with that going that far out is a no no (too dangerous). We have a place in Key West (further south), and mostly just go there (where the water is warmer that time of year) We don't line fish or kayak fish at all, we are divers and snorklers and prefer to spear fish instead ( where we can pick from the menu (lol)). We are mostly on the other coast and the keys, I don't know much about that area so don't listen to me. My brother lives in that area (Port st Lucie), and doesn't go out in the winter.
Hopefully someone from that area will chime in with better advise. FE
