Thinking about putting a rectangle hatch in my outback where the eight inch hatch is, if I do this will I still be able to stand up in it or does it make it too weak to stand?

As long as the supporting foam under deck is kept in place, the deck remains strong enough to stand with the rectangular hatch installed.

Beware of the year the outback was made. I don't think the rectangular hatch will fit Outbacks before 2012 as the 'deck' area is too rounded. I fitted a hatch to my 2013 outback with little problem. I had to plastic weld 1 screw hole left from the round hatch (front most center hole). I think it has made the area stronger as the hatch is pretty thick plastic and covers most of the area, although I don't stand in the yak, I'd spend more time in the water than on the yak.

If you do go ahead make sure you get the gasket seal as it is sold separately.

Hobie Rectangular Hatch Kit (part # 71707003) comes with the backing ring, gasket and screws needed to accomplish the install.
