Hello
The 14/16 NAC is coming up in Sept in Clear Lake Ia. The preregistrations are looking pretty thin thus far, and the head organizer is getting pretty nervous about things. The budget for this event in around $50k and we have some sponsorship $$ but very few people signed up and the cheap registration ends VERY SOON and we don't have the revenue to sustain that budget.
We have been encouraging all the 14s, youth and women to get on the stick asap and register, those events are looking fair so far, but the 16 open is not, and we need some names on the board. I think that this is a great opportunity for those sailors in 16 A fleets and B fleets to compete in 'the show', as we feel there will be a number of sailors that don't necessary plan on winning this event, participating and there will be some great competetion in the middle and back of the packs.
www.hobiecatdivision7.org PLEASE register for these events NOW, as the organizer is getting nervous and talking of scaling way back on the proposed budget or even the unthinkable, cancelling part or all of the event.

These things always start out slow. No need to panic. But do get your registrations in and save some money!

I can totally appreciate where Todd and Chris are coming from. Our registrations are way down as well in the Tiger and 18 fleet. We don't have any tigers registered from outside our division. Makes for a very biased competition for a North American Championships event. I am sure Todd and Chris have had a lot of promises of attendance with little action on the promise, such as we have had. It makes it hard on the organizers when we work hard to prepare a top notch event that everyone will enjoy and remember, and very few support. Yes, gas prices are up, so stack your boats, reduce the cost. I can assure you, going from pulling 1 boat to 3 boats does not reduce the gas mileage that much, then you get to share it with two other people. WE had Harry M organizing the big trailer to come west, then he got a new job and no holiday time. Was there no-one else to carry the ball when he had to back out (for good reason)?

Come on sailors, support your mates who try to give you the best. I have always appreciated the hard work the organizers have done in the events i have attended and hope that people will feel the same when they come to visit us. We are working hard for you, not for our own benefit.
Early registration ends today for the 14/16 event, our second deadline is July 31st...
Show your support, sign up, be involved.

Well, I guess by showing our hand of nervousness, the Hobie people have come to action, because we are getting a good number of registrations in the last few days. Thank you. :D

Hey y'all!

We are going to extend the Hobie 16 & 14 Registration Deadline to July 31st.

Here's the deal, on August 1st, we will place the order for the event shirts. Anyone not registered by July 31st....will most likely not get a shirt at the event. With registrations about half of what we anticipated, one place we can't loose money at is bringing in a bunch of shirts we can't sell. We may be able to take orders at the event and mail them...will have to consider that.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION:
You can fill out the information and submit it via the event's website and NOT pay via Google Check-out. If you don't have a Google account, just fill out the form and submit and then mail in your check to Tom Podhajsky. His address is on the printed registration form.

Submitting the on-line form by July 31st will at least get you a shirt.

Also; we understand gas is more money this year. But consider the following:

1:We are providing THREE full Meals during the Open Event...and there is no up charge for the Awards banquet...which has been typical the last few years.

2:Lodging in Clear Lake is Wayyyyy less than other parts of the country.

3:Gas in Iowa is running around $3.80/gallon....under the national average.

We know most will decide to load those trailers and travel...we just want to encourage as many as possible to commit and register so we can plan accordingly and thus stay close to our budget! Please let me know if I can help in your plans in any way. Hobie Fleet 10 looks forward to providing a top notch event with good times, good sailing, and great memories! :D
