NOHUHU, It is the same in the southern hemisphere. I think that when jms2756 was working out the coefficient he left of a decimal point in the equation :D

Nohuhu, hate to tell you this but everyone got maps wrong... here's a view from space: http://www.ehabich.info/images/synchro/downunder.jpg ... clearly showing Aus at top. But you may have a point about red being faster in your hemisphere, as I just today picked up my yella TI in Aus - and it's gotta be faster!

Humm little did I know how big the can of worms was when I started this thread.

It would appear that many posts on this forum show images of Red AIs. This leads me to conclude that red is more common.
Is this becuause Hobie have made more Reds because they know that Yellow is faster and want to reserve the faster boats for the exclusive few....just a thought.

As for the science, red is higher than yellow on the color spectrum which means it will absorb more light than it will reflect compared to its yellow counterpart. This will cause the red version to grow through thermal expansion which will increase drag so surely yellow would be faster?

Pete.

Acutally, it's harder to get a good picture of the yellow, because it's moving so much faster. The red being much slower is easy to photograph.

I get good pictures of the yellow's, because I'm on a fast yellow next to them. Very few red's in my pictures because they are so far behind! 8)

My apologies Capt. All these years I had it wrong.

So your sun sets in the east then?

Go Yella TI!

NOHUHU as can quite easiy be seen from your own photographic evidence the two AI's are tacking towards the camera and as can seen again from the photo the yellow mast is taller and so closer hence winning.

and also to defend the slurs on bob, this signature pictue was taken on a round the island race and the two yellows are obviously on their second round and about to lap the red AI

its easy you just have to asses the evidence correctly

That's understandable - Once you had a look at what was following you.

What's the old adage? "You don't need to be able to outswim the shark, just the guy next to you!"

Sounds like we need a Challenge - Red vs Yella!

As an ex-sailor, finally getting back into sailing with my new yellow TI, which is going out on it's maiden voyage tomorrow, lets show those 'reddies' our wake!
