Hi Leaf and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you've done your homework and have a good idea of what needs to be done. So this sounds like a personal decision.

On one hand, you can save over a thousand in exchange for a pre-aged hull with a full two year warranty (boat and Drive) that probably offers just as much fun on the water and that no-one will want to steal.

On the other hand, you can get the newer, updated version that has some convenience and durability upgrades -- for 50% more money.

Economic limitations aside, if the boat is likely to get scraped up in use, it probably makes more sense to get the older hull. If you are planning to do a lot of pedaling and want to upgrade the Drive, you've got a nice pool of money to so it with.

On the other hand, if you're a spit and polish sort who gets a lot of enjoyment from the visual aspects, you might regret not getting the newest boat.

Since you're the only one who has personally inspected this boat, you would know best where the value lies!

Remember you may want some accessories -- Turbofins, cart and ? Either way, it adds to the price.

Whichever one you get, you should have a blast sailing it! 8)

PS is it feasible to take the '07 on a demonstration run to make sure there is nothing warped and everything is fully functional? I'm thinking about the rudder assembly in particular after baking in the sun for a couple of years or with the weight of the boat on it. It is replaceable though.

Howdy!

I have tennis elbow (had to quit tennis) and carpal tunnel problems in my wrists (from work).

I never thought I'd be able to sea kayak; paddling makes my hands go numb at the end of the day (which means the condition will only get worse).

The AI makes it possible with the Mirage pedal drive. You'll be very happy with it.

Chris

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I was paddling an ocean kayak until I purchased a Hobie Outfitter. My question is when you developed tendonitis from paddling was it on the inside of your elbow? My tennis elbow (from tennis and too much laptop time) was on the outside of my elbow but I then developed a pain on the inside of my elbow aka 'golfer's elbow' I thought it was from being on the laptop but now thinking it was from paddling.

Howdy!

My tennis elbow started in Junior High from actual tennis playing. I had a wicked serve... too wicked for developing joints and tendons. Carpal tunnel came from repetitive motion at work (Postal Service). I wear wrist braces at work. Paddling only made pre-existing conditions worse.

My tennis elbow is on the outside of my elbow. Once you develop a problem, you have a weak link that many things can affect.

Humorously, professional brewers are often afflicted by "brewer's elbow", caused by stirring vats with a paddle.

Thank God, Goddess, Allah, Yaweh, Jehovah, Shiva & Shakti for Hobie & it's foot driven Mirage pedal drive. It makes it possible for me to kayak!

Happy Trails!

Chris
