Thanks Mickey. I am still deciding and looking for reasons for upgrading. My ship is in fine shape but would update if it is to my advantage.

Could someone advise if the new model's ada mounts protrude out from the hull to the same extent as the previous model. I have found them a worry when I am swimming from the rig when in kayak mode and entering and leaving the water. That itself would be an advantage... Pirate

Pirate - I had a good look at Alan Pearce's today & I think they don't protrude as much - nor are they likely to cause you any discomfort if you make contact with them whilst in kayak mode. It makes sense that they would not protrude so far given that the hinged knuckle is part of the akas - if you get my drift.
If I had had the missing parts for my 2011 whilst I still had the old boat I could have made a more accurate comparison. I was informed this morning that they will be dispatched by courier today - so I expect I will get them early next week.
The rudder is not functioning satisfactorily yet - but from what Matt M has written the replacement is very good and not too far away.

Can I ask a question please Matt? Has anything been done to alleviate all the earlier concerns raised on this forum to improve the durability of the paint job on all the alloy parts in the new model, like anodising, powder coating or an epoxy finish to stop their early deterioration like in previous models?..Pirate :?

The e-coating paint got a lot better some time ago (this was a consistency issue with our suppliers). We are now switching to anodized aluminum. May be mixed inventory for awhile though. Should be recognizable by a bit less glossy finish.

So Matt, any relief for those of us who were presumably victims of the "consistency issue" and had akas corroding by the time the boat was 3 months old?

There are a few options...

Re-painting seems to work.
Replacements at a reduced cost.

I've tried repainting them myself, but that hasn't solved the problem (perhaps due to my lack of skill in that area).
Replacement at cost would seem fair. My local dealer (who I believe you know) offered to get them powder coated for a case of beer (for the powder coating people), but he has gone out of business.
How would I go about arranging to purchase replacements? Crossbars are similarly effected.

Chris - has your dealer gone out of business?

@pirate About the same as yours Pirate, 25 months.

@mickeymouse Yes. He sold the business, which is mainly about Lasers and the new owners dropped the Hobie franchise, for whatever reason.

Contact another dealer to file a warranty request. That would be the best way to get this rolling and a quote on a cost.

Not yet it seems. Different source different issues. That is the plan though.
