That fixed it Chris, can now see your clever idea.
There are more ideas in this topic as well.

I am partial to nicnrob's ultra simple extension.
I have sailed his TI with that extension and only had one problem with it.
Rob wanted it back after an hour of great sailing
Cheers, Brian

Thanks Brian. I checked out the link and love the simplicity. My problem is I want to steer from anywhere on the TI not just the port Haka. Even on the bow, I'm a freak :) I hate to replace the handle but the handle is like the one thing on the TI I'm not a fan of so I may as well keep tinkering around a bit.

Chris

Saw your YouTube video.... Thinking..... How bour replacing Tiller handle with a plastic spool, say 4-6" in diameter? Depending upon the spoke size and the drum width n depth, you could notch the spool and if you then add square knots to your tiller rope that would fit into the notches, you can eliminate the whole friction aspect or angle of pull aspect problems!
I'm thinking of an anchor capstan spool that is notched for anchor chain, so it can pull both line and chain...

That way if you are sitting in cockpit, just remove knotted rope and steer using the spool / spokes.....
The only problem cud be the rope losing tension n falling off, so a flate plate under spool that has a center hole to fit thru tiller spindle mite work?.....

Great insights. I think that should work and definitely be an improvement. Im going to try it and see how it works
