Dear Hobie overlords, please be aware that most people fishing from Islands quickly learn that one tramp is better than two. Some of us always fish from our Islands and thus only ever use one tramp. Please make Port and Starboard sides available individually. You'll sell more in the long run. Thanks!

Thanks Matt, greatly appreciated. As someone who sells them for a living, I couldn't tell you how many Island customers have wanted to buy a single tramp, but could only buy a pair, knowing that they'd never use one of them. Thus a lot of them just live without, or otherwise get a custom one made. Fishing with two tramps doesn't make sense (unless you're catching small fish) but a single tramp is invaluable.

To start... I'm simply going to continue stocking sets, but offer lefts and rights in addition via part number. Then split sets to make the singles if needed. Risk is getting too many requests for one of the sides. Then I would have to make a BOM and work orders for lefts or rights to balance the stock.

Scotty could do it the same way.

Say HI to the big guy for me.

Yep Matt, you're right and thats why we haven't started splitting them ourselves. For sure we'd end up with an excess in starboard side tramps. Most people tend to fish out of the right side of the boat, and it is most convenient to be able to fold the ama to pull fish aboard. As such, the port side tramp will be the one that sells the most. Mind you, we'll probably find users will take advantage of being able to buy individual sides to replace sides that might be damaged. I know I've put a knife through mine a few times.

If Hobie can make left and right side tramps available for order via individual part# that would be fantastic. Big thanks for listening and giving it consideration.

Will say g'day to the big fella for you :-)

Cheers,
Josh

Dare I suggest that the laws of supply and demand could operate here? Hobie could sell the more popular one (say) 60% of the cost of a pair, and the other one (say) 40%. Adjusting the relative prices could sort out inventory levels.

If this does become popular I would have thought that with only a little bit of tweaking a universal tramp could be made that worked on the right and left side! Double up the pockets/paddle holder straps (over/under) or get rid them of them entirely. The roll up bungees and clips work either way.
I know because I've seen someone here fit them that way!!!

Matt, yes, black only would be fine I think. Anglers are the ones who will go for the single tramp option, and tramps can get bloodied up pretty good, and this is a lot less ugly than the grey ones when it happens. So yep, black only is good enough for me.

Stringy, I agree with that. I have seen the current tramps used in reverse. Its not perfect, but it works. A universal tramp could work, but the current bungee cord and retaining hooks would probably have to be sacrificed. No problem in use, only is pack/up & storage. But there's ways around that to.
